Edwin Zweedijk on growing with LEDFans:

"We use less heating compared to the HPS side of the greenhouse"

With their newly installed LEDFan toplights, the Dutch tomato grower Lans Group team was given a new tool to control the climate in their greenhouse.

In a video, Edwin Zweedijk, the operational manager responsible for 21 hectares of high-tech tomato greenhouses in the Netherlands, shares his first two months of experience growing with the newly installed LEDFans.

The LEDFan Toplight of Food Autonomy powered by Tungsram has been specifically developed by growers, for growers - it was co-developed with Lans Group, one of the biggest greenhouse operators in the Netherlands.

Fans built into lamps
With LEDFan, the cold air drawn from the top by the built-in fans gets warmed up by the heat loss of the LED chips and drivers. LEDFan directs this warm air downwards towards the crop and, at the same time, blocks the rising heat from the heat pipes, thus creating a warm air blanket above the plants. "Warming up the air also lowers the relative humidity (RH) and significantly improves evaporation, combined with the slow air movement. Besides reducing lighting costs, it also provides considerable savings (around 15-20%) on heating costs compared to HPS.
