US (CA): City expands permitting of cannabis cultivation and manufacturing

The Imperial City Council passed a new city ordinance that would amend the codified ordinances regarding medical and adult-use cannabis during their last regular meeting on Wednesday, June 1.

The council previously approved Ordinance 795 back in 2018, which adopted the use of cannabis for medical use only and was later amended to include adult-use as well.

"Before you at your direction that we received a few months back and have gone through the public hearing process, you have Ordinance 815," said Assistant City Manager Alexis L. Brown. "What this ordinance proposes to do is to expand the City's one current existing one all-exclusive permit that allows for 7 uses to a second permit that will only be for manufacturing and cultivation within the City," said Brown.

Brown stated that this new ordinance will keep intact the previous rule of having a conditional use permit granted by the council for any activity of this kind to occur.
