New York cannabis regulators on Monday, the 14th of Augustus, approved the first round of cannabis processor licenses, as well as additional cultivators, as the state gets closer to launching adult-use sales.
Members of the Cannabis Control Board (CCB) also gave the green light to proposed laboratory and sampling regulations and approved the hiring of a policy director, John Kagia, who has worked for the cannabis industry analytics firm New Frontier Data.
On Monday, the board accepted 15 licenses for existing hemp businesses seeking to process cannabis and extract cannabinoids. This marks the first approvals for that adult-use license type in New York.
CCB also approved emergency regulations for cannabis laboratory testing standards, a move that allows regulators to “immediately open the application window” for testing facilities, CCB Chair Tremaine Wright said.
