US (OK): Thousands of medical cannabis companies facing fines for seed-to-sale noncompliance

Oklahoma's medical cannabis industry is grappling with seismic changes following the state's implementation of a "seed-to-sale" tracking system, leaving thousands of licensees facing fines and the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority locked in multiple lawsuits over the matter.

The legal challenges and frustrated licensees are just the latest hindrances to the state's efforts to use a statewide tracking system to crack down on black market sales and improve quality control.

Seed-to-sale tracking with Metrc software was initially delayed for nearly a year because of a lawsuit challenging its constitutionality. Plaintiffs in that case reached a partial agreement with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority in May to let the tracking finally begin.

Despite assurances that the cannabis authority and Metrc would help businesses set up their accounts and troubleshoot problems, some owners have complained about confusing policies and hard-to-reach support staff that left fined companies for noncompliance.
