Polish company launches camera that monitors greenhouse plants

The Polish company Intertech Service has launched a new device to help growers use light more efficiently. It is a camera that offers live monitoring of plants in a greenhouse. It is based on direct measurements of chlorophyll fluorescence signals from plants which reflect the photosynthetic efficiency of plants. The product can already be purchased via the website.

"The invention allows plants to autonomously control their growing environment in any greenhouse. We have started developing our system that allows plants to control their light quantity (light intensity) and quality (spectrum) remotely and invasively," says prof. Dr. Hazem Kalaji, who developed the product.

"The specific lighting requirements for each species, genotype, and variety are still unknown and far from the real needs. The use of our system will save energy and allow plants to create their lighting schedule during each growth phase and even during the daily course of photosynthesis,' he explains.
