Dutch grower stuck with kilos of cannabis, waiting for other growers to be ready

In The Netherlands, the first legal adult-use cannabis grower is ready but can’t supply to the coffee shops yet. “One of the conditions was to have your operation ready within a year, which we have achieved. Yet the majority of the experiment’s growers are not there yet,” says Fred van der Wiel of Fyta in a video by Nieuwsuur. The cannabis company cannot supply their product until the other growers are ready as well.

“Now we have to deal with the consequences of the other growers being late, even though we are the only company to have achieved all the conditions of the experiment,” Fred says. Out of the ten growers that are part of the Dutch coffee shop experiment, Fyta is the only one ready to go. Some of the others are struggling to open a bank account or are waiting on their environmental permit.

If Fyta has to wait until all nine other growers are completely ready, Fred explains that that would not only be a financial disaster for his company but also unfair.
