"Cannabis company intimidated efforts to unionize"

An Alberta cannabis producer went more than one toke over the line in undermining a unionization effort among its staff, the province’s labour relations board has ruled.

Management of Calgary-based Sundial Growers intimidated employees when they tried to attend a union information session on July 13 of last year in a meeting room at the public library in Olds, where the company has a grow operation, the Alberta Labour Relations Board has ruled.

Teamsters Local Union 987 lodged a complaint against Sundial of unfair labour practices when it said two members of management showed up at the library just as employees were arriving for a meeting.

Union organizer Preston Quintin said he had a verbal altercation with Sundial Scheduling Manager Alan Corrales outside the library.
