In this highly competitive market with skyrocketing energy prices, a grower’s margins can be razor thin. The next logical step for said grower would be looking for those heavyweights on the OPEX. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that lighting would show up at the top of the most expensive systems in indoor farms list. That is why BizReps has developed a new line of LEDs called Grow Solar. “Our LEDs have a patented spectrum that is tailored to a grower’s needs,” says Tim Woods from BizReps.
Tim Woods continues to explain that having a spectrum that is designed for specific vegetation is what is needed for indoor farming today “It’s crucial to see through the marketing. The technology of our LEDs has been developed and improved over the decades. Our patented spectrum is indeed tailored to fully promote plant growth. Bluntly put, we match the spectrum to the plant or variety at hand. Next to optimum growth, however, growers also need to save on electricity. That’s where our Grow Solar light harvesting feature comes into play.”
According to Tim, Grow Solar™ light harvesting is a distributed energy resource that delivers the most cost-effective use of solar-generated electricity compared to traditional solar farm systems, and the DC power output from photovoltaic solar panels is used to directly power the LED fixtures. “In this way, we eliminate the traditional conversion to AC, which is quite wasteful, thus reducing operational lighting costs by at least 60%,” he explains. “Growers wouldn’t need to take much energy from the grid, dramatically decreasing the energy costs of their lighting system.”
Growers are very meticulous, and that’s not a surprise considering how many plants they have to keep in check every day. “That is why we are providing growers with a revenue grade measuring system too,” adds Tim. “Thanks to that, they can also see their energy savings and positive CO² impact on the environment.”
In an industry that is pushing to get increasingly sustainable, Tim believes that it’s crucial to take the necessary steps to be better from a sustainability standpoint “but also from an efficiency and productivity standpoint,” he points out. “Being environmentally sustainable and having high efficiency and productivity are not mutually exclusive. Our Grow Solar line of products is a demonstration of that.”
