Photo report: The biggest edition of Spannabis to date

As one of the exhibitors said: "As soon as you walk into this event, there is no denying just how booming adult-use cannabis currently is." Over 25,000 people from 50 different countries gathered at the Spannabis event in Barcelona this weekend. With over 500 companies exhibiting, the organization calls it their biggest edition yet. With such large numbers of international visitors, the cannabis event has an estimated economic impact of more than 8 million euros for the city of Cornellá.

According to the organization, two industry developments marked this year's edition: the increasing popularity of CBD and the rising interest in medical cannabis. In fact, it was recently announced that Spain will be quadrupling its medical cannabis production this year. Yet the country does not yet really have a regulated domestic medical cannabis market yet. "Hopefully, the regulation of medical cannabis will become applicable before the end of 2023, being the turning point in the problematic relation between the Spanish institutions and the plant," the Spannabis organizers mention.

When it comes to adult-use cannabis, it is not fully legal yet in the country. But developments on that front seem to be occurring as well, as lawmakers have recently been debating cannabis regulation. Currently, personal consumption is decriminalized in Spain, making cannabis clubs a popular way to consume cannabis in the country.

Visitors were able to test the potency of their cannabis at the show, using the GemmaCert device. This made the stand a very popular stop, so Alex and Jonathan were ready to help.

When spending the weekend at Spannabis, that popularity is definitely visible. Several of the lectures at the event even reached full capacity, as many people wanted to learn the latest developments in the industry. Because of the interest, Spannabis plans to add more square meters to the exhibition area for Spannabis 2024, the 20th edition of the cannabis event.
