US (CO): Regulator issues warning about moldy cannabis products

The Colorado Department of Revenue (DOR), in conjunction with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), is issuing a Health and Safety Advisory due to the identification of potentially unsafe levels of Total Yeast and Mold on Regulated Marijuana flower produced by Carrick-Harvest, LLC (doing business as Veritas Fine Cannabis). The CDPHE and DOR deem it a threat to public health and safety when cannabis is found to have Total Yeast and Mold above acceptable limits established in Colorado Marijuana Rule 4-115.

Through an investigation, the DOR has identified batches of Regulated Marijuana flower that contained Total Yeast and Mold contamination above acceptable limits. The DOR also identified batches of Regulated Marijuana that underwent a separate decontamination process compared to their corresponding Test Batches (lab samples), rendering the test results unreliable. As a result, the CDPHE and DOR deem all batches of Regulated Marijuana flower produced by this licensee to be a potential threat to public health and safety. These contaminated, untested, and improperly tested batches were sold at Regulated Marijuana Stores across the state through March 14, 2023.

Consumers who have this affected cannabis in their possession should destroy it or return it to the Regulated Marijuana Store from which it was purchased for proper disposal. Consumers who experience adverse health effects from consuming cannabis flower should seek medical attention immediately and report the event to the Marijuana Enforcement Division by submitting the MED Reporting Form.

All affected cannabis has a label affixed to the container that, at a minimum, indicates the license number of the Regulated Marijuana Business that cultivated the cannabis and the Harvest Batch number assigned to the cannabis.
