US (CA): Firm wants to grow cannabis in Plainfield’s old Mack Trucks factory

A California firm will be returning to the Planning Board this month for approval to use the former Mack Trucks building on West Front Street as a cannabis cultivation and manufacturing facility.

Clade9, based in California with a local office in Basking Ridge, received unanimous approval in October to use 17,000 square feet of the building for cannabis cultivation and manufacturing. That approval was conditioned on the firm obtaining approval from the state Cannabis Cultivation Commission.

In March, the Cannabis Regulatory Commission approved Clade9's application to operate the facility by a 3-1 vote with one recusal.

Clade 9, which grows and manufactures medical cannabis, has gained a foothold in the market with brands such as Diamond Dust, Phoenix, Medusa, and Bubba. The public hearing on the plan is scheduled for 7 p.m. on April 20 in City Hall's Library Meeting Room.
