Wisconsin Republicans voted Tuesday to kill proposals to legalize cannabis, pay for renovations at the Milwaukee Brewers’ stadium and create a paid family leave program, moves that Democratic Gov. Tony Evers derided as “foolish.”
Democrats accused Republicans of acting against the wishes of voters on issues like Medicaid expansion and cannabis legalization that polls show have broad support.
Evers, citing broad support as measured by public polls, called for legalizing both recreational and medical cannabis. Republicans have long resisted legalizing recreational cannabis, but Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said last month he hopes to bring a medical cannabis bill to a vote this fall.
