Argentina: Company launches first 6 medical cannabis strains

The technology-based cannabis company Conicet launched the first six varieties, and their cannabis seeds were designed purely and exclusively with national resources. They are intended for different therapeutic treatments, so they vary in the content of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), and terpenes with therapeutic qualities.

With names that refer to the national culture, for the first time, Conicet presents its own varieties of cannabis that will be available for sale to people who are registered in Reprocann, which is the registry of the cannabis program for people authorized for controlled cultivation for medicinal and/or therapeutic purposes.

In this regard, the principal researcher of Conicet, director of the Interdisciplinary Cannabis Program of the CCT Conicet Cenpat, and scientific coordinator of Conicet, Gregorio Bigatti, explained that "it is the first license that the agency makes for a company to produce them."

"There are six varieties of medical cannabis that were developed," said Bigatti and recalled that they have a clandestine origin because they were "before the regulatory framework, and were crosses of some plants that we used and that later, thanks to the new legislation, we could start working in a more scientific way within the agency."
