US (NJ): Plainfield OKs three dispensaries, grower to open in city

Three cannabis stores and a large cannabis cultivation and manufacturing facility will be opening in the city. The adult use dispensaries will be opening on Front Street, South Avenue and Park Avenue.

The cultivation and manufacturing facility, owned by Clade9 New Jersey, will occupy 137,423 square feet, about the size of 2 ½ football fields, in the former Mack Truck plant on West Front Street.

Clade9, based in California, received unanimous Planning Board approval in October to use 17,000 square feet of the building for cannabis cultivation and manufacturing in the first phase of its use. That approval was conditioned on the firm obtaining approval from the state Cannabis Cultivation Commission.

In March, the Cannabis Regulatory Commission approved Clade9's application to operate the facility by a 3-1 vote with one recusal. Since that time, Clade9 told the city it was not going to undertake the phasing and wanted to use its full 137,327 square feet in the building for its cannabis cultivation and manufacturing operation.
