US (CA): Mendocino County selects firms to improve cannabis industry and process transparency

Mendocino County, the third largest cannabis cultivation industry in California, has selected VIP and Accela to support its growing cannabis program and industry. Mendocino County will leverage this joint solution to remain agile in the face of changing regulations, create more transparent communication, and streamline operations so the county can better serve its businesses.

The County of Mendocino is located at the tip of the "Emerald Triangle," a large area encompassing three counties in northwestern California. Collectively, this region produces more cannabis than any other place in the United States, with Mendocino County home to about 600 cannabis businesses and more than 290 acres of active cultivation sites.

"We are honored to partner with Accela to implement its Civic Application for Cannabis Regulation for Mendocino County," said Judy Steele, director of state and local government cannabis solutions at VIP and project lead for the installation of the Mendocino County project. "We look forward to applying our cannabis industry expertise alongside Accela to ensure Mendocino's sophisticated regulatory program continues to support its growing legal cannabis industry effectively. "

Accela and VIP will help ease burdens in licensing cannabis cultivation, processing, and business regulation, empowering the county to increase its capacity to pursue strategic goals, such as boosting communication and transparency with businesses and residents. The Accela Civic Application for Cannabis Regulation is easily configurable, allowing agencies to remain responsive in a complex regulatory environment.

"As a leader in the cannabis industry, Mendocino County needed a best-in-class system to match its advanced cannabis regulatory framework and enhance service to the industry," said Greg Felix, vice president of strategic solutions at Accela. "With Accela Cannabis Regulation, Mendocino will use automation to simplify office processes and optimize operations. This will deliver a better, more intuitive experience for department staff and business owners while ensuring full compliance to protect public safety."

"Cannabis regulation is nuanced and always changing, and we have full confidence in Accela's and VIP's ability to meet our needs today while having the built-in flexibility to handle whatever comes our way in the future," said Kristin Nevedal, director at the County of Mendocino's Cannabis Department. "It was important to find a cannabis regulatory solution that could support our public safety, equity, and agency efficiency priorities and adjust to our market differentiators, including Mendocino's designated appellation and environmental protection focus. We look forward to working with Accela and VIP and having the tools we need to best serve our county, now and down the road."

VIP will help deliver Accela's solution to improve the county's licensing process and increase collaboration with other departments. By relying on a modern platform, the county's cannabis licensing solution will be easy to use and maintain while supporting workflow optimization and efficiency.
