“We noticed that some customers found it difficult to accurately visualize what their vertical grow room could look like. Therefore, we recently launched a new tool that gives a 3D visualization of the overall system based on your specific room dimensions and the equipment you’re considering,” explains Del Rockwell, Product Manager at Pipp Horticulture. The team has been showcasing their new Room Generator tool at recent trade shows, such as GreenTech Amsterdam and ICBC Berlin, where it has received much interest from visitors. “It allows you to see the whole picture and scale of what you’re considering installing, customized to your dimensions. This also helps our customers to plan out the labor efficiencies, logistics, and how the equipment is going to function. Moreover, you receive a detailed ROI report, allowing people to see the revenue potential of these rooms.”

How does it work?
When opening the Room Generator tool, you first enter your specifications, such as the room dimensions and how many tiers you want to grow in. You can also choose what LED provider you’re planning to use, as well as other equipment. According to Del, the other major benefit of the tool is the ROI report. “It helps to forecast the potential revenue of the rooms. You can add what your yield expectation is, how many turns you’re planning to get in a year, as well as the anticipated price for your product, and you will get an estimation of the revenue per year.” Del says that the tool is very easy and intuitive to use, with relatively few fields to fill out and many tooltips built into the website.
Convincing growers
Del explains that the company saw a need for a tool that could convince growers of the benefits of going vertical. “The information that the Room Generator can provide will hopefully change some of the biases we’ve seen. The fact that people can now walk through the revenue potential of their own vertical grow will be a major factor pushing people towards going multi-level. Also, being able to see the efficiency inside these rooms, the volume that you’re taking up, and how many plants you can fit inside a relatively small space should be a big motivator to swap from single-level to multi-level.”
According to Del, the tool was mainly created with the cannabis industry in mind. “Because of our experience of working in the cannabis industry, it made sense to first cater the tool to the needs of cannabis growers. Also, as cannabis is a high-value crop, many cannabis growers are interested in going vertical and can spend more on capital expenditures. Yet we absolutely have our eyes towards food crops as well.”
