"The healthier the root system, the higher the yield." With this thought in mind, the team with Blackmore designed their recently released and patented HempPots. HempPots are part of the Pioneer Pot range of Blackmore and are specially designed for mother stock and greenhouse production of hemp and cannabis.
Save space, costs
"We wanted to create a solution that addresses the challenges of traditional growing containers and enables growers to save space costs and increase the yield significantly. Our goal was to provide optimal air circulation and drainage, ensuring that the plants receive the necessary nutrients without the risk of waterlogging or root suffocation", says David Dobos with Blackmore.
With the design of their AirTrays in mind, they created the HempPots.The pot's construction exposes the entire root system to air, creating a wet-dry cycle that enhances root development. This process encourages air pruning, which prevents the formation of circling roots and encourages the growth of secondary and tertiary roots. "Healthy root systems are crucial for overall plant health and productivity. Our design ensures that plants grown in Pioneer Pots experience minimal root constraints, resulting in stronger and more productive vegetation."
Cooler roots
HempPots offers a pot-in-pot system that keeps the root system up to 30°F cooler than standard smooth-sided containers. Maintaining a cooler root system is critical for achieving higher yields, David says. "The connection between root health and yield is well-established. Cooler roots translate to healthier plants and, ultimately, a more bountiful harvest. With Pioneer Pots, we're not only ensuring cooler roots but also providing the air circulation and drainage necessary for plant growth."
