René Polak, Ushio:

“We’re ready to be the ‘last man standing’ in Europe’s HPS production"

Amidst a shifting industry landscape, where more and more suppliers are stepping back from the realm of HPS lamps for horticulture, Ushio remains steadfast. "There are still many HPS systems in place that currently will not be replaced by LED, either investment wise or because LED is not the ultimate solution to some of the crop species," says sales director of horticulture René Polak.

Ushio remains a partner for HPS lamps in the future
Looking ahead, Ushio wants to let the market know that they continue as a manufacturer of high-quality HPS lamps and components for professional greenhouse lighting. "We remain committed to HPS technology and our high-quality production, made in Europe, and ready to support growers, whether in relamping endeavors or pioneering hybrid systems," René affirms. "This is crucial to many of the growers. They need a reliable partner for the years to come."

Ushio stands for quality and innovation
Ushio has a track record spanning over more than two decades. "Our lamps have shone optimized spectral distribution for high photosynthesis efficiency and high PAR value stability over the entire service life," explains René, "and our commitment to this technology remains resolute. We persistently invest in and curate our renowned Horturion® HPS lamp lineup, including power supplies. This is why our Horturion HPS lamp series commands global recognition and symbolizes quality."

The Horturion HPS Suprema is the latest innovation of Ushio Germany in the field of plant growth light, introduced in March 2022. "It is the world's first HPS 1000 W lamp with a light output of 2200 μmol/s and therefore the most efficient HPS 1000 W lamp ever introduced in the market", says René

In-house R&D center and production facility
Inaugurated in 2017, the company's production facility sprawls across nearly 6000 m2, boasting significant capacity. "And our in-house engineering facilities, armed with cutting-edge equipment, will also serve in the future as the breeding ground for innovation," Rene continues. "Here, meticulous measurements and tests pave the way for milestones like the pioneering Suprema lamps."

Operating at its full potential, the Ushio production plant has the capability to craft a million lamps annually for professional greenhouse illumination. "This underscores our stature as not only a steadfast purveyor of top-tier lamps but also a dependable source for high-volume orders catering to large-scale undertakings."
