“Even if the German market might not be opening its doors as much as initially expected, we see a lot of potential for our LED lights in the German cannabis market. Our lights use an energy-saving method of pulsation to illuminate the plants. This is interesting for European growers who are dealing with high energy prices,” says Izabela Bybel-Spalinska, Horti Market Manager of Perfand LED. “Using pulsation not only results in lower electricity bills, it also lowers the need to use extra cooling and ventilation, as the lamps don’t generate as much heat as luminaires with constant a light stream.”
Test
Because energy saving is an important topic for growers, the German company Aurora Delta has recently done a study comparing different lights. “The report showed that two of our Horti 2 CB lamps had an average power intake of 100W, compared to one lamp from another producer that had an average power intake of 345W. Overall, the study showed a 41% lower energy consumption when used on young maternal plants, with little to no difference in growth. Because of the positive results, there may also be a test on blooming plants soon,” Izabela says.
Competition
According to Izabela, the current LED lighting market is quite a challenging one to navigate. “The market is quite filled, generating a lot of competition and making it difficult for growers to know what is best. From our experience, growers need universal lamps, but most importantly, reliable ones. Reliability is where we feel we have an advantage. Our whole assembly line is centered in our Polish factory. Therefore, we have full control over our whole production process, from conception to shipping,” Izabela says. “We give our lights from the entire Horti series a 5-year warranty, but most importantly, we still implement new solutions. We oftentimes create completely new lamps for the client’s personal needs.”
“Overall, lighting is our passion. Thanks to it, we grew fond of interacting with plants, seeing how they can flourish when we create the right conditions. Finding opportunities in the cannabis industry fuels us for constant growth,” Izabela says. “We believe that in Poland, the laws will also be changing soon. We hope that the October election will finally open our politicians’ eyes and make them realize how valuable cannabis is.”
