CAN (ON): Canopy Growth Corporation celebrates grand opening of consolidated Smiths Falls operations

CAN (ON): Canopy Growth Corporation celebrates grand opening of consolidated Smiths Falls operations

Despite the layoffs and reduced footprint, Canopy Growth Corporation says it remains committed to Smiths Falls. Canopy Growth Corporation officially celebrated the opening of its new head office and manufacturing facility at 99 Lorne St. in Smiths Falls on Thursday, Sept. 21. “Today is a day of celebration,” said Dave Paterson, Canopy Growth president. “I couldn’t be more proud to be part of this great team, this great company.”

The company has consolidated operations locally as the workforce and footprint of operations have shrunk. In February 2023, the company announced the layoffs of 800 workers across the company — including approximately 350 from the Smiths Fall and Ottawa area. The company also announced the stoppage of cannabis flower production and closure of its 1 Hershey Dr. location in Smiths Falls.

“Today is a new chapter; it’s a new chapter for Canopy Growth,” said Paterson. “We moved across the street, we were 1 Hershey,” said Paterson, in the company’s new location across from the old chocolate factory. “That is where we started, that was our foundation. Then change needed to happen, and here we are today at 99 Lorne.”

Paterson affirmed the company’s commitment to the community.
“The future is bright, this is our home,” he said. The new building name, “Tweed,” goes back to the company’s roots. Smiths Falls Mayor Shawn Pankow said it’s hard to believe that Tweed has been part of the community for nearly nine years now — his entire time as mayor.
