Cambodia: PM tells prospective foreign cannabis growers not to come to Cambodia

Hun Manet, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, has issued a strong message to any foreign investor who wants to grow cannabis in Cambodia.

The PM made his remarks on the occasion of closing the meeting to summarize the work results of 2023 and the direction of 2024 of the National Authority for Combating Drugs and disseminating the 9th plan to fight against illegal drugs on Tuesday afternoon, February 20, 2024.

The PM said that recently, a few people have applied for investment permits to grow cannabis in Cambodia to serve the health sector, as has happened in Cambodia's neighbor Thailand.

The PM stated, "For me, I say that as long as Hun Manet is still the Prime Minister, I do not agree with this ([Thai]law. For management, ask if you can manage. I once saw that in the United States, a superpower bigger than ours, some states give them the right to plant but can not control it because of two problems. The first is not controlling the use, the second is stealing more than the license."
