Getting ready for a week full of medicinal cannabis around Greentech

Sharing the strength of Dutch expertise in the cannabis industry

"The importance of Dutch suppliers and expertise within the horticulture and the cannabis industry is known worldwide," says Sonny Moerenhout, Managing Partner at Cultivators. "However, there are still cannabis projects being set up without using the full potential of the available expertise on large-scale cultivation. Luckily, that's exactly where the Dutch excel: we have the experience with large-scale horticulture. That's why the global cannabis industry can greatly benefit from Dutch companies."

In line with the many developments in Europe (such as Germany, of course), it's a great time for the cannabis industry to get together and exchange knowledge. That's why during the week of June 10, several events are shining a spotlight on Dutch knowledge in the cannabis industry.

GreenTech
On June 11-13, it's time for GreenTech Amsterdam. According to Sonny, cannabis will be getting as much attention as it did in previous editions. The Medicinal Plants Pavilion is where visitors will find the exhibitors catering to the cannabis industry. On the Medicinal Plants Stage, there is a wide variety of topics to be discussed. Sonny highlights the 'Exploring Cannabis Growers Worldwide' session on the first day. "This is one of the most popular sessions every year, highlighting three global cultivation companies. This year, we will be hearing from Bathera (Portugal), Cann Group (Australia), and well-known cannabis advocate and author Jorge Cervantes."

For an update on the Dutch Coffeeshop Experiment, Simone van Breda will be present. She is the chairman of the Union of Coffeeshop Retailers in the Netherlands, a candidate for the European Parliament, and working on a national and international level to advance the regulation of cannabis and to professionalize the emerging industry. Together with one of the Dutch growers all ins and outs will be discussed about the progress within the experiment.

Another session Sonny highlights is 'From Farm to Pharmacy: Global Developments in Medicinal Cannabis'. In this session, three thought leaders will discuss market trends and developments, while highlighting the importance of quality control and standards in the constantly evolving international industry. This session will feature Tjalling Erkelens from Bedrocan, a Dutch medicinal cannabis producer since 2003; Atiyyah Ferouz from ICQSA, a non-profit association to develop best practices for quality standards in cannabis; and Mariana Larrea Arias, a distinguished Mexican attorney with a specialization in Life Sciences, Cannabis and Pharmaceutical.

Two facility visits
Before the GreenTech kicks off, there is also an opportunity to visit two cannabis cultivation facilities on June 10. MCPIR and Cultivation for Compounds (CfC) have joined forces to host a full day of facility visits. From the GreenTech location (RAI Amsterdam) a bus will take visitors from abroad to the two cultivation sites. In the morning, MCPIR will host a tour at their facilities in Bleiswijk as well as discussions on lighting, phenotyping and climate strategy in Bleiswijk. After, a well-deserved break with lunch will be provided. The afternoon program will continue at the World Horti Center. Explore the CfC Pavilion, indulge in the immersive 360 film, and engage in conversations with various participants. After, the group embarks on a guided tour to Vertify for an insightful visit to the cultivation site and an in-depth explanation of the ongoing research.
