US (RI): State cannabis commission will allow cannabis to be transported to Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket

Massachusetts will allow the transportation of cannabis from the mainland to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.

After meeting in executive session for several hours Thursday, the Cannabis Control Commission approved an administrative order that allows marijuana and marijuana products to be transported over the state's territorial waters to licensed businesses and treatment centers on the islands.

The decision comes after places like Island Time Dispensary on Martha's Vineyard had to temporarily close.

Owner Geoff Rose told WJAR the store ran out of product after the island's only cultivator decided to shut down. The commission hadn't previously allowed cannabis transportation to the islands over fears of interfering with federal regulations.
