US (OK): Alleged robbery at grow facility has police "tight-lipped"

The Grady County Sheriff's Office is investigating an alleged robbery at a marijuana grow facility near Ninnekah. A crime that one expert FOX 25 spoke with said has become more common in Oklahoma.

"We have seen a rise in violent crime involving these marijuana farms, because some of them are local people just robbing another local farm because they know where the marijuana, maybe some cash is stored," said Mark Woodward, a spokesman for the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.

The proverbial jury is still out on whether that's the case with this most recent incident earlier this month, as police remain tight-lipped and details remain limited. And although Woodward said it's possible this was just a local robbery, history shows it's also possible there is much more to the story.

"We've seen a lot of these over the last four years that are linked to organized crime, involving homicides, extortion, we've had people shot trying to escape these farms, we've seen a number of burglaries that are not just some random guy looking for some quick cash or some marijuana like you might see on a weekend dispensary robbery," he said.
