US (NY): Switch from cucumber to CBD products brings in big bucks for grower

Trever Sherman has always believed in the power of organic produce and the health benefits of sustainable plant products. He launched Ithaca Organics in 1997, with a focus on wholesale organic produce based on that belief.

The business became a regular at the Ithaca Farmers Market in 2005 – the same year the business became certified organic - and Sherman opened a farm storefront in 2010. It's been almost 15 years since then, and much has changed, including the legalization of medical and recreational cannabis use in New York.

The business has taken its produce off the table this year, in favor of a new revenue stream in state-legal cannabis, with plans to return to form in 2025 with organic produce and CBD products, all while remaining a certified cannabis cultivator.

Ithaca Organics launched its first foray into the world of cannabis with hemp-derived CBD products including salves, balms, oils, and tinctures containing Cannabidiol - one of the over 100 natural compounds identified in cannabis plants that many of Ithaca Organics customers claim, helps with chronic pain and anxiety among other common ailments.
