Doubled mites in new Limonica packaging

Koppert introduces their new Limonica product with a doubled number of predatory mites per bottle; from 12,500 to 25,000. "This improvement is a result of our ongoing efforts to make Limonica, the predatory mite Amblydromalus limonicus, easier to apply and more sustainable for growers", the team says.

Difficult to rear
Tim Bossinga, Global Product Manager at Koppert, explains: "Limonica is a product with enormous potential. However, the predatory mite is difficult to rear and had therefore not yet reached its full potential. After months of research and development trials, we significantly improved our knowledge and delivered results that previously were considered impossible. Being able to double the number of predatory mites in a bottle means that the product becomes more accessible to growers in both existing and new markets. More importantly, the improved production is a huge step forward in working on future developments of this successful product."

Limonica: solution for whitefly and thrips
Amblydromalus limonicus is a generalist predatory mite that feeds on whiteflies, thrips, mites and other small insects. "This mite is very effective, especially in managing invasive thrips species like Thrips parvispinus and Scirtothrips spp. Exclusively produced by Koppert and marketed under the name Limonica, this mite has proven to be a great solution in pest control, especially under low temperature conditions", says Tim.

Thriving in heavy pest infestations and lower temperatures
"What sets Limonica apart is the ability to thrive in cases of severe infestations. The mite quickly controls pests by feeding on thrips, whiteflies and pollen. It doesn't just eat first-stage thrips but also second-stage larvae, eggs, and all larval stages of whitefly. Another remarkable aspect is that the mite stays active in a wide range of temperatures, from 13°C to 30°C. Even at 13°C, it continues to lay about one egg per day, ensuring its effectiveness in colder conditions - performing better than other predatory mites."

Limonica 25,000 in a 1-litre bottle will be available per February 3rd, product code 05605.
