US (CA): Humboldt County begins revoking permits for unpaid taxes

Humboldt County is moving forward with enforcing the Measure S cannabis excise tax, with the first round of permit revocations set for next month. Cannabis farmers who failed to enter payment plans for back taxes by March 31, 2024, are now facing the consequences—losing their permits.

"These are folks that absolutely did not enter into a payment agreement with the treasurer- tax collector," said Planning Director John Ford during an update at the Feb. 20 Planning Commission meeting. "We're starting to take those forward for revocation."

He said 22 revocations will be up for Board of Supervisors approval on March 11.

Commissioner Thomas Mulder noted that those with tax debts could pay the county $100 to kick off a payment plan and "that's all it took to stay off this list."
