A new House bill has been introduced that would allow medical cannabis to be sold in edible form to registered patients and caregivers.
Representative Steve Vetter (R-Grand Forks) introduced House Bill 1203 last legislative session, but it didn't receive enough votes. He brought it back this year with the changes recommended by the House Human Services Committee, and it passed 67-25.
Vetter says that edibles are a healthier alternative to smokeable marijuana, which has more carcinogens in it. He says this bill would allow the manufacturers to regulate the dosage given to people, which is an issue for those who make their own edible cannabis at home.
Some senators expressed concerns with children getting access to marijuana. The bill says that the containers would have to be childproof, and the edibles would be designed to not be appealing to minors.
