Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts Allison Ball is launching an investigation into the Kentucky Office of Medical Cannabis following a series of complaints from the public about the medical marijuana business application processes and some of the department's general procedures.
Auditor's Office communications director Joy Pidgorodetska Markland said concerns have been in regards to the overall operations of the Office of Medical Cannabis, in addition to "more specific complaints regarding the business license awarding processes and medical oversight procedures."
In a statement issued April 17, Ball said her office will begin its investigation by examining business license applications and award processes.
"My office has continued to receive complaints about how the Office of Medical Cannabis administered the lottery process for awarding medical cannabis business licenses," she said. "Kentuckians should have confidence that state offices operate with transparency and integrity, and my office is committed to ensuring those standards."
