Humboldt County cannabis cultivation permits continue to be revoked as those holding them fail to pay Measure S excise tax debts.
Twenty-one cannabis permits were revoked by the county's Board of Supervisors at its April 22 meeting, bringing the number of permits revoked so far to 57. The 21 permit revocations represent a total tax debt of about $107,000.
When supervisors first considered carrying out revocations in October of 2023, the total Measure S tax debt was estimated at $14 million. Payments are being made in some cases and as of last November, the total debt was at about $12 million.
Debtors can also lose their permits for not paying Planning Department fees. As of October of 2023, the total debt on that was $2.1 million. The most recent batch of revocations originally included 24 permits. Two were removed from the revocation list as one permit holder paid the tax debt and another entered into a payment plan between the time of being noticed and the board's hearing.
