The importance of genetic selection and cultivation strategies in cannabis cultivation

What truly defines high-quality genetics in cannabis? How can growers make decisions based on both scientific data and market expectations? How do environmental influences, pest resistance, and lineage impact plant development, and how do these choices ultimately affect everything from terpene profiles to trichome density? That's what's being discussed by Casey Rivero and Taylor Kirk in an online webinar organised by Fluence.

On Wednesday, May 21, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM GMT+2, Fluence will host an online webinar titled Unlocking Cannabis Genetics for Quality and Consistency. The session will explore how genetic traits interact with cultivation environments, with attention to how these dynamics affect plant development, cannabinoid and terpene expression, and overall market alignment.

The agenda includes analysis of cultivar selection processes, focusing on how to evaluate developmental traits, compatibility with environmental conditions, and resistance to biotic stress factors. The webinar will also address how consumer-facing attributes—such as aroma, flavor, bud structure, and chemistry—are linked to underlying genetic factors.

Participants can expect discussion on the role of lighting in genetic expression, including how LED spectral strategies may influence physiological outcomes like trichome density and cannabinoid ratios. The session will also examine the role of data in decision-making, comparing public versus licensed genetics and the implications of media and climate control strategies on phenotype expression.

Targeted toward commercial cannabis cultivators, facility managers, and growers, the event will provide technical perspectives on aligning genotype selection with operational and market objectives. Fluence will present insights applicable to both facility-level optimization and broader supply-chain consistency.

The webinar is scheduled for 12:00 PM CT / 7:00 PM GMT+2, with registration available online.
