It's been a transformative year for biochar — and the momentum is just getting started. The industry's about to reach a new milestone with our largest conference to date and the upcoming launch of North America's first city-run biochar facility, led by the City of Minneapolis.
The U.S. Biochar Initiative (USBI) leads the charge in accelerating market growth for biochar — produced from waste biomass and used in agricultural, industrial, and infrastructure markets.
The 2025 North American Biochar Conference, hosted by USBI, will take place September 15–18 in Minneapolis, MN. This event is expected to draw 1,000 professionals from across the globe for four days of technical sessions, workshops, field trips and industry networking. With 75 exhibitors expected, the Biochar Conference will spotlight the latest innovations shaping the biochar industry and its growing role across agriculture, infrastructure, carbon markets, and environmental solutions.
For example, the City of Minneapolis is set to become the first city in North America to own and operate a municipal biochar facility. A perfect example of how cities can lead on climate action while driving domestic growth, creating local jobs, and advancing resilient infrastructure.
