US (MN): Microbusiness applications open in Olmsted

County officials have begun the process of bringing the marijuana industry to southeast Minnesota by opening applications for cannabis microbusiness registration in Olmsted County. Applicants will have until 5 p.m. on June 20th to apply.

In accordance with state law, Olmsted County is allowed to issue one cannabis business registration per 12,500 residents, leading to 14 in total. Eight of those are designated for microbusinesses.

Microbusinesses are those with a single retail location that plant no more than 5,000 square feet of cannabis indoors, or a half-acre outdoors.

A nonrefundable $100 lottery application fee must accompany each application. If more than eight eligible applications are received, the county will hold a public lottery where the winners will be granted the registrations.
