CAN: Odor issues still concerning Pelham residents

Odours emitted by a pair of cannabis grow operations in Pelham continue to be an issue, based on complaints the Town receives from residents. Fire Chief and Director of Bylaw Services Bob Lymburner said the Town is doing the best it can to answer residents' concerns.

"We respond to every complaint," Lymburner said, adding that bylaw officers work from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. As for the operations emitting odours, part of the issue lies with the federal government, Lymburner said. When cannabis was legalized, there was little in the legislation about potential odours from cannabis grow facilities.

"They just said these kinds of operations cannot emit odours," he said. It has now been more than half a year since the odor issues became public knowledge.

The two operations that draw complaints from residents currently are Redecan, located on Foss Road, and Thunder Spirit, located at the corner of Balfour Street and Hwy. 20 in the former CannTrust/Phoena facility, both in Fenwick. A third operation, Woodstock Biomed, also on Foss Road, and which grows medical cannabis, has not been charged under the new bylaw but does have its own history of legal issues with the Town.
