How Grow West built a scalable, worry-free grow house

When Grow West Cannabis Company launched their Maryland operation in 2018, their cultivation relied on five expansive grow rooms utilizing HID lighting, which was industry standard at the time. Today, the company operates a state-of-the-art 30,000-40,000-square-foot grow house, complemented by a container grow facility featuring 20,000 square feet of canopy inside a warehouse. Embracing innovation, they upgraded from traditional lighting to a fully integrated system powered by TSRgrow's advanced LED lighting solutions with remote power, and their GROWHub monitoring and control software.

"One of the best things we have found about our GROWHub Software, is we don't have to be in the grow 24-hours a day for 24-hour coverage," says Sky Hissey, Cultivation Manager at Grow West.

Set it, and forget it
The facility blends natural sunlight with controlled indoor conditions: glass ceilings, solid walls, and fresh air intake. That is why Sky calls it a 'grow house.' "It's a version of a greenhouse but with solid walls, glass ceilings and outdoor air," he explains. TSRgrow's GROWHub software keeps track of real-time PAR levels, kicking the LEDs on or off depending on what the sun's doing. "We're not blasting full power all day, only when it's needed," says Sky. "It's more efficient, and it gives the plants what they need without overdoing it."

Wireless sensors throughout the grow space also monitor temperature, humidity, and other variables. If something drifts out of range, the system fires off a text or email. "Our techs can get an alert and react even if they're off-site," he adds. "It gives the team some flexibility, which is rare in this kind of work. I get to go home at night and not worry about what's going on in the grow."

Out of the grow room, into the server room One of the more technical upgrades to their lighting system is TSRgrow's Remote Power servers, which relocates heat-heavy electrical components out of the grow and into a central power room. That lowers the temperature load inside the canopy, saves on HVACD, and gives the team a lot more visibility into what's happening electrically across the facility.

The shift away from HID has also paid off where it counts: yields are up, terpenes are richer, and consistency is better across the board. "The results speak for themselves," says Sky. "But honestly, the biggest change is having peace of mind away from the grow room."

Scaling with Confidence
With advanced technology in place, Grow West has built a cultivation system that scales efficiently without overburdening the team. "Our grow is more hands-off without being disconnected, more efficient, yet fully in control, and built with future expansion in mind. TSRgrow's integrated solutions give us the real-time insights and precise control needed to maximize yields and maintain consistent quality. It's a core strength of the TSRgrow platform: empowering growers to scale with certainty, no matter where they operate."
