The New York State Office of Cannabis Management teamed up with B.L.O.O.M. ROC to talk about cannabis education and how it affects young people. It's part of the "Listen and Learn" series, equipping parents and trusted adults with the tools to support kids through cannabis related conversations.
Organizers said as the legal market expands in New York State, the discussions offer a space to share perspectives and ask questions. As a newer department, OCM officials said their first step is gathering insight from community members and learning what resources they need.
"We really wanna hear how are they interacting with cannabis in their lives," OCM Deputy Director of Public Health and Education Lyla Hunt said. "What do they know about cannabis? What do they want to know about cannabis? and also, How do they want to learn about it, right? How can we make sure that we're creating the content that covers the material that they're interested in but also wherever they're interacting with educational content whether that be social media or more traditional forms of media."
"Having those conversations so that our community is mature and informed in reference to you know the products that are available as well as the dispensaries, having the very clear distinction about you know what's a lab tested product and you know have that very clear distinction as to where that product was even grown," B.L.O.O.M. ROC President Precious Brown said.
