US (RI): Cultivator license revoked for "history of noncompliance"

The Rhode Island Cannabis Control Commission on Thursday, Aug. 7, revoked the license of a cultivator it said had a long history of noncompliance and also discussed the parameters of its expanded authority as new retail stores and issues of THC-infused hemp products rise on the horizon.

The commission revoked the grow license of the business THCBD, LLC, at 49 Mechanic St., Richmond. Commision chairwoman Kim Ahern said its owner, Anthony Walker, had shown a "flagrant disregard" for consent orders to resolve previous regulatory violations, including failure to maintain accurate inventory tracking and nonpayment of a $800,000 penalty.

Police said they arrested Walker in June on a drug charge after commission inspectors arrived early at the Richmond grow facility to destroy hundreds of pounds of marijuana and saw Walker putting the product into a U-Haul truck and driving off.

The commission also discussed the need to set some precedents, or rules, for how long it will allow applicants of future retail cannabis stores to try to meet regulatory requirements before rejecting them and perhaps considering another candidate.
