Morocco enters the global medical cannabis market

Morocco has achieved a significant milestone in the medical cannabis industry with the export of its first legal shipment to Australia. The country shipped 50 kilograms of the local "Beldiya" variety, marking Morocco's entry into the global medical cannabis market.

This process, overseen by the National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis-Related Activities (ANRAC), is the result of years of work to create an appropriate legal and institutional framework. ANRAC has played a critical role by providing technical and administrative support, in collaboration with Australian health authorities and pharmaceutical laboratories. Compliance with international quality, traceability, and regulation standards has been key to the product's acceptance in the Australian market.

Morocco has also diversified its markets with a CBD shipment to Czechoslovakia, strengthening its position in Europe. This national strategy aims to position the country as a reliable supplier in advanced markets.

At the national level, the province of Chefchaouen, specifically the Bab Berred region, is home to the first greenhouse cannabis cultivation pilot project. The goal of this project, under the direction of a licensed company, is to create a controlled and safe production system in line with current legislation. Construction of the greenhouses is at an advanced stage, and production is expected to start soon.

Greenhouse cultivation provides a legal and profitable option for farmers in mountainous areas, who have traditionally been marginalized and linked to illegal cultivation. This project not only aims to improve their economic conditions but also to promote practices that respect the environment and health standards.

With these innovative exports and national projects, Morocco demonstrates its commitment to developing a strong and sustainable medicinal cannabis sector. The strategy aims to generate added value, create jobs, and foster territorial development, transforming producing regions and consolidating the country's position in the global therapeutic cannabis market.
