As New York's adult-use cannabis industry continues to expand, the School of Business at SUNY New Paltz is meeting the moment with a comprehensive, fully online Cannabis On-Demand Workshop, designed specifically for dispensary owners, operators and retail professionals seeking to build and manage successful, compliant cannabis businesses.
Developed over the past year, the Cannabis Workshop provides self-paced, expert-led training focused on the management and administrative skills that are key to long-term success in this growing industry: compliance with New York State regulations, effective retail operations, supply chain optimization, taxes, reporting, and workforce development, among other topics.
"This program offers real-world guidance for dispensary owners and managers who are navigating a fast-changing regulatory landscape," said Lori Krzeminski, program lead at SUNY New Paltz. "We've created an accessible, affordable way to gain the foundational knowledge needed to build and scale a compliant and sustainable cannabis business."
The workshop offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to ensure compliance within the cannabis industry, covering key areas such as BioTrack/METRC tracking, standard operating procedures (SOPs), regulatory frameworks, marketing limitations, and audit readiness. It emphasizes a workforce-focused approach, providing participants with best practices for hiring, training, and retaining qualified dispensary staff. The fully online, asynchronous course structure allows for a flexible and accessible learning experience, enabling participants to enroll and complete the course at their own pace. This workshop has been crafted in consultation with compliance officers, cannabis attorneys, certified public accountants (CPAs), and industry professionals, ensuring it is grounded in extensive industry expertise.
The program is open to participants aged 21 and older, with no prior experience required. Current license holders, social equity applicants, managers, and professionals across all retail roles are encouraged to register.
