When installing horizontal screen cloths, SchermNed already uses a system that allows screens to be pulled in quickly, cleanly, and safely. Until recently, such a system did not exist for façade screens. That has now changed.
For the installation of façade screens, SchermNed has developed a special VGV system. At the new-build project for Ammerlaan The Green Innovator, this innovation was used for the very first time, in a combination of both horizontal and vertical pull-in screens.
No more dirt streaks or cleaning necessary
At the Pijnacker project, SchermNed is installing all the screens, both horizontal and vertical, including insect netting. Thanks to this new innovation, every screen can now be installed using the special pull-in system. In practice, horizontal screens are usually only pulled in once the greenhouse construction is complete. For façade screens, however, that was not previously possible, explains Jack van der Voort of SchermNed.
"To keep the screens clean during construction, façade cloths are normally rolled up in the truss. But you always end up with a strip of about twenty centimeters that still gets dirty. Later, when the grower starts using the façade screens, that means an unsightly dirt stripe on a brand-new screen or an extra round of cleaning."
With the new system, SchermNed now installs the profiles safely in the truss using aerial lifts, but only pulls in the façade screens later, when it can be done safely and without risk of dirt. "That way, we can keep even the façade screens clean," says Van der Voort.

He admits the sequence of work also suited the project planning, but he stresses that the innovation itself makes this new approach possible. "I think it's really exciting. Most growers don't yet know that this kind of pull-in system for façade screens exists. But it has clear advantages, making future renovation projects faster, more cost-efficient, and safer."
