Arcana Collective, a new collaboration uniting legendary cannabis breeders with experienced business leaders, has officially launched with a mission to restore authenticity and quality to the industry. The group holds the intellectual property rights to several foundational cannabis strains, and its members bring decades of expertise in breeding, cultivation, and plant knowledge. For the past year, they have been cross-breeding classic genetics with modern cultivars, preparing to release new, one-of-a-kind strains.
The Collective's work focuses on advancing breeding, cultivation, and nursery sciences, while also sharing knowledge with cannabis professionals and enthusiasts around the world. Its production facility, called Ghost Town and located in Shelton, Washington, uses state-of-the-art cloning and tissue culture technology, advanced soil science, and organic methods to produce healthier genetics at lower costs. In fall 2025, the company plans to launch its Nursery Sciences division, offering seeds, slips, and tissue culture clones, along with opportunities for genetic licensing.
Arcana Collective brings together some well known names in cannabis breeding. Josh D, who preserved OG Kush in the 1990s, helped establish its legendary reputation. OG Ghost is recognized for Ghost OG and for maintaining a large library of iconic cultivars. Ras Kaya Paul, founder of Pacific NW Roots and award-winning breeder of Koffee, is also known as a pioneer in regenerative farming and hash making. Chemdog, who discovered Chem91 as well as Chem 4, Chem D, and Chem Sis, provided the genetic foundation for Sour Diesel, GG4, and other classics. Suny Cheba, a member of Team Green Avenger, bred influential strains including Double Purple Doja, Black Cherry, and Neon SuperSkunk. Rev Fuji, a cultivator since 1990, developed elite genetics such as Kurple Fantasy, which won the High Times Cannabis Cup in 2012.
On the business side, the leadership team is spearheaded by proven cannabis executives. Michael Klein, Chairman and Cofounder, is a lifelong entrepreneur and cofounder of bio365, the company behind patented organic living soil widely used by top cannabis operators. Andrew Berman, CEO and Cofounder, is an industry veteran who previously served as CEO of Harborside and President of Flora California, and who has overseen multiple successful exits in the cannabis space.
Arcana is also introducing its PAC program, which stands for Permission, Acknowledgment, and Compensation. This program ensures that breeders give explicit permission before their genetics are used, are publicly acknowledged for their contributions, and are compensated in line with financial success. These practices, long overlooked in the legal market, aim to bring fairness and respect back to the cannabis community.
"Legal cannabis has fallen short of its promise," said Michael Klein. "The industry has lost its connection to the plant and the values that built it. Arcana was founded to restore respect for the plant and for those who have dedicated their lives to it."
"Today's consumers rarely know if a strain is authentic, and often its origins are uncredited," added Andrew Berman. "By using DNA sequencing, we can verify a strain's lineage, ensure stability, and provide consistency. This technology also allows us to develop new genetics with the most valuable traits, so consumers know exactly what they're getting."
