Netherlands: Court delays ruling on cannabis odor case

The Rotterdam court needs more time before making a decision in the case against the state-licensed cannabis grower CanAdelaar in Hellevoetsluis. For now, that means residents will still have to deal with the smell, while the grower won't be fined, AD reports.

"The judge needs more time," a court spokesperson told the paper, adding that a ruling is expected at the end of this week or early next week.

CanAdelaar had previously been given a deadline: by Thursday, September 4 at midnight, the odor nuisance had to be resolved. Failure to do so could have triggered fines starting at €500,000 and potentially climbing to €2 million. According to a consultancy report, the company would need to invest around €35 million in "possible solutions" to fully eliminate the odor.
