US (WA): Training on high-THC now available for state budtenders

New training is now available for cannabis retail staff. This training is designed to help staff, commonly known as budtenders, understand the health risks associated with high-THC cannabis products. The program is structured into four sessions, providing a comprehensive overview that will aid budtenders in making informed decisions and offering better advice to their customers.

The course covers a range of essential topics. Initially, it focuses on the basics of cannabis, laying a foundation of knowledge that is crucial for anyone working in the cannabis retail industry. The second session delves into cannabis health and safety, providing insights into the potential risks and how to mitigate them. This is followed by a session on serving customers responsibly, which underscores the importance of maintaining ethical standards and prioritizing customer well-being.

Moreover, the course addresses how to reduce harm and understand the social impact of cannabis, ensuring that budtenders are equipped to provide support to their clients effectively. Each of these sessions is brief, taking 15 minutes or less, making them accessible and easy to fit into a busy schedule. Upon completion of the course, attendees have the opportunity to print a certificate, provided they pass a short quiz, thus validating their newfound expertise and commitment to responsible cannabis retail.

This course meets the legislative requirements for the Washington Department of Health to develop optional training for cannabis retail staff to understand the health and safety impacts of high-THC cannabis products.
