Multiple fire companies responded to a fire at the First State Compassion marijuana cultivation center in Milford on the morning of Sept. 4. Frederica, Carlisle, Ellendale and Houston fire companies responded to the commercial structure fire, with first reports coming just before 8:30 a.m., according to live run logs.
It was a "small incident" that will have "no impact" on the facility's operations, according to Howard Schacter, chief communications officer of First State Compassion's parent company, MariMed. He said the company does not know what caused the fire.
General manager Michael Rego also said the fire was minor and contained in one area of the facility. No one was hurt, he said.
"We have a very strict safety protocol and it worked flawlessly," Rego told Delaware Online/The News Journal. This is the same facility that hosted Gov. Matt Meyer in July, just before the adult-use marijuana market officially opened in Delaware.
