US (NE): Commission holds emergency meeting over Governor's lack of regulatory approval

The Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission held an emergency meeting Monday. The group met because Gov. Jim Pillen reportedly did not approve of last week's preliminary regulations.

Monday, the commission came to an agreement to approve 1,250 plants per grower. Last week, the group approved four growers for 12 dispensaries, meaning Douglas County would have one dispensary, Sarpy and Cass Counties would share one, and the rest would be spread out across the state.

"We don't necessarily know the answers to this. We want cultivators to know what the supply is, what they need for the supply right, and to figure that out as we go. And that's why we did not want to put a limit on it, we're being asked to put a limit on it, or it won't get signed," said commission member Lorelle Mueting.

"I think what I'm worried about is if you limit it to these numbers, the price of the product will be prohibitive to the patient, and I understand what I challenge is because we need to have a number of the governor won't sign it, who doesn't want it in the first place," said member Bruce Bailey.
