Bayou City Hemp Company has applauded Governor Greg Abbott for what the company termed his "tremendous leadership in issuing an executive order that strikes the right balance between protecting children, preserving liberty for responsible adults, and ensuring Texas hemp businesses can continue to thrive."
This order is the first step in the process to ensure reasonable regulations get the job done.
The executive order includes several initiatives. It emphasizes protecting children by ensuring that no minors will be able to purchase hemp-derived products any longer. Through THCA conversion testing requirements, high-dose consumable products will effectively be removed from the market, reinforcing safety. Moving forward, all products will meet strict low-dose guidelines, ensuring safer usage. The order also mandates transparency and consumer safety through standardized labeling requirements that will ensure responsible adults are fully informed and protected. Additionally, it cracks down on bad actors, making it harder for irresponsible businesses to remain in operation.
"This executive order gives responsible companies the certainty to continue investing in Texas jobs and innovation, while eliminating bad actors who give our industry a bad name," said Ben Meggs, CEO and Co-Founder of Bayou City Hemp Co. "I want to thank Governor Abbott for his tremendous leadership in protecting kids, upholding safety, and preserving liberty."
Bayou City Hemp employs more than 100 Texans in the Houston area and is in the process of completing a multi-million-dollar expansion facility. Without Governor Abbott's action, an outright ban would have forced these jobs and investments to move to other states such as Florida, even though hemp-derived consumable products are federally legal.
"Instead of outsourcing these good-paying Texas jobs, the Governor's order keeps them here where they belong—supporting Texas families, veterans, and communities," Meggs continued. "We are proud to fight alongside Gov. Abbott to ensure good actor businesses like ours can keep growing right here in the number one job creator in America: Texas."
