The Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission has selected two of the four state cultivators using a lottery system, following a delay caused by the resignation of two commission members. Gov. Pete Ricketts asked Bruce Bailey and Kim Lowe to resign after Hobert Rupes was indicted.
The commission announced that Nancy Laughlin-Wagner of Midwest Cultivating Group and Patrick Thomas were chosen, as their applications scored above 70 points and met all requirements. Crista Eggers and Casey Sledge, also selected by lottery, were denied due to scores below 70.
The commission's general counsel stated that rubrics for scoring will be released once all cultivators are chosen. Applicants denied licensure have until Oct. 23 to appeal. The board plans to review the next two lottery applications during the appeals period to expedite the process.
Each of the four cultivators is limited to growing 1,250 plants at a time, with two harvests per year, potentially supporting 20,000 patients annually. This is in stark contrast to Colorado, where around 60,000 patients are treated.
