Call it a sign of the times. Eighty acres of economic growth are coming to Automba Township in the form of a licensed, legal marijuana grow and processing facility. County officials described the development as "very positive." The Carlton County board unanimously approved a conditional use permit for the operation at its meeting Wednesday.
"The neighborhood is excited," said District 5 commissioner Dan Reed, representing the area. "Of course, it's something different when it's legal."
The operators of the cannabis growing and production operation, OBAA Partners, operating as Panta Cannabis, include three men from the Twin Cities metropolitan area, including Danny Broder of Bloomington, Nicolas Adducci of St. Paul, and Jason Tarasek of Minneapolis, according to their application.
The owners are in the process of purchasing 80 acres at 6703 County Road 6 in Kettle River, where they plan to build their business. According to Carlton County land records, the undeveloped acreage is market valued at $187,000.
