US (MI): Boston Hemp Inc. calls for full protection for hemp

Boston Hemp Inc. issued a formal statement today calling on federal policymakers to preserve the definition and legal status of hemp as established under the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018. The company argues that the current framework works, and that any move to impose new THC caps or expand restrictions would deliver severe economic and agricultural damage.

In its statement, the company said hemp must remain fully legal under the rules laid out in the 2018 Farm Bill. It warned that rewriting the definition or tightening limits on hemp-derived products would lead to job losses, shake consumer confidence, and hit a sector that has grown into one of the country's most dynamic agricultural engines.

The company's appeal comes as national discussions intensify around possible changes to THC thresholds. Boston Hemp Inc. points to the industry's track record to make its case. Hemp-derived products bring in billions each year in retail sales and tax revenue. States such as Texas and Indiana have seen strong growth tied directly to hemp cannabinoids, with new businesses, rising employment, and dependable local income. According to the company, tens of thousands of jobs in farming, extraction, manufacturing, retail, logistics, and support services hinge on the federal definition remaining untouched. It warns that revising that standard could wipe out thousands of positions in individual states, let alone nationwide.

The company also highlights hemp's safety record. There have been no verified deaths linked to regulated hemp cultivation or compliant hemp-derived product use. For an industry often scrutinized, this remains a key point in its argument that the existing oversight system works. Farmers have also come to rely on hemp as a stable crop for fiber, grain, seed, and cannabinoid production. Boston Hemp Inc. says shifting federal rules would undermine investments and disrupt planting plans, leaving growers with uncertainty at a time when agriculture needs predictable, long-term policy more than ever.

Boston Hemp Inc. outlines several reasons why new THC caps or additional restrictions would be harmful. Changes would strip away jobs, cut state revenue, and limit access for millions of consumers who use hemp-derived products for wellness or lifestyle support. The company adds that tighter federal limits could push consumers toward unregulated and potentially unsafe markets, undoing years of progress in transparency and compliance.

The company's stance is firm. The 2018 Farm Bill already defines hemp clearly as cannabis with less than 0.3 percent THC by dry weight. Boston Hemp Inc. says it supports responsible regulation, including testing standards, accurate labeling, and age protections. What it rejects are bans, arbitrary caps, or any attempt to reclassify hemp in ways that conflict with federal intent and disrupt a sector that has proven both safe and economically valuable.
