A cannabis grower in St Lawrence is making a fresh attempt to build a cover over noisy chillers at its farm – which it says addresses concerns of the Planning Committee, which rejected a previous application in September.
Northern Leaf has submitted updated plans to build an 'acoustic enclosure' around existing chillers, which themselves do not have planning permission, at Retreat Farm off Rue des Varvots. The application doubles up as an attempt to get retrospective permission for the chillers, which nearby residents argue ruin the peaceful enjoyment of their homes.
This is an attempt by Northern Leaf to dampen that sound to acceptable levels. The application also seeks permission to build a landscaped 3m-high bund to the west and south of the chillers.
The Planning Committee had rejected the last application because it had not demonstrated that the "significant new building" – the enclosure – made a positive contribution to the landscape and there was a lack of detail around planting.
